Biography
Obed Floan is a distinguished American heldentenor, voice instructor, and arts administrator with a career spanning over four decades in the music industry.
As a performer, Floan has garnered acclaim for his powerful and brilliant voice, particularly in Wagnerian repertoire. His rendition of “Nothung! Nothung!” from Wagner’s “Siegfried” has been described as having “the brilliance and power of a fjord blessed” and sung in a “voice of spun gold”.
Floan’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Vocal Performance) from Luther College, where he graduated with honors in 1997. He also minored in Acting and Religion. He furthered his studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, earning a Master’s of Music Degree in Vocal Performance with honors in 2010. During his graduate studies, Floan participated in a Wagner masterclass at Haus Marteau in 2009, working one-on-one with renowned tenor Siegfried Jerusalem.
In his professional career, Floan has worn many hats. He is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of St. Croix Valley Opera, a non-profit opera and musical theatre company based in Stillwater, Minnesota. The organization aims to produce high-quality musical performances and provide opportunities for amateur artists to perform alongside experienced professionals.
Floan is also the founder, owner, and president of M-OStudio Enterprises, LLC, an umbrella company encompassing various music training and production divisions. Under this banner, he operates Tenor Artistry, his personal brand as an independent entertainment professional.
As an educator, Floan has extensive experience in vocal instruction. He served as an Instructor of Voice at Oklahoma City University from 2010 to 2015. Together with his wife, Megan Wagner Floan, he runs M-OStudio Enterprises, LLC, a vocal studio that has garnered praise from students for its comprehensive approach to vocal education and technique.
Throughout his career, Floan has demonstrated a commitment to nurturing young talent. His students have achieved success in various musical theatre productions, opera companies, and competitions. They frequently credit Floan’s teaching methods for their vocal growth and career advancements.
